The Standard Bank
Corporate Division Getaway Weekend
Brainstorm
Projects was commissioned by Standard Bank Corporate
Division to conceptualize and organize a getaway
weekend.
The
Brief:
-
The staff of Standard Bank Corporate Division
work long hard hours together but don’t
know each other very well. We need a weekend where
they get to know each other and build good relationships.
-
The staff come from very different backgrounds!
They need to know more about each others cultures.
Team
Building:
There
are two ways to build rapport in a group. The kamp
“Staaldraad” style team building weekends
where people are forced to do various activities that
they often don’t want to do or, we of course
believe strongly in the latter. A breathtaking outdoor
adventure (with all the comforts of civilization).
The Itinerary
We
gave them a choice between:
-
Lowveld Game Farm - a 4 x 4 adventure in the bush
with a helicopter ride through the Blyde River
Canyon
-
Victoria falls - white water rafting on the mighty
Zambezi
-
Tiffindell Ski Resort – charted flight,
4 x 4 shuttles and skiing/snowboarding
They
chose Snow Safari 2007

Weekend
overview
We
departed from Lanseria airport, flew in 6 seater planes
(6 planes for 43 people) over Lesotho, landed on a patch
of grass call Lyndale airfield (there was
a windsock there some say but otherwise it was a patch
of grass in the middle of nowhere), drove
them in 4 x 4s up icy mountain passes to the resort,
treated them to snow, skiing, snowboarding, the occasional
snowball fight, stand up comedians, culture questionnaires,
a gum boot dance with Pat Pillai, crazy bar games, an
igloo wall, a log cabin party and a very sore looking
bunch took the flight back over Lesotho and to Lanseria
Airport.
We
addressed the building of better relationships
through great scenery and adventure. We addressed
the cultural differences through questionnaires
where the answers were revealed and every delegate received
the book, Clued up on Culture.

The
Tinvite, as it has been called was filled with snow
ensuring that the essence of the event was captured.
Logistics
Brainstorm
handled all the logistics of the event:
|
Ice
Breaking
|
When
a group of people are unfamiliar with each other,
someone needs to break the ice. We decided to put
together an ice-breaking ceremony to launch the event.
The delegate’s access cards to be used on the
ski slopes were frozen in blocks of ice. They then
had to break them out of the ice with a hammer. |
